A Talk with Madhav Pandit On My Birthday – July 29, 1973

I met with Madhav and touched his feet and he pulled my head to his stomach and held me for a long time. Then he took me to his kitchen and gave me a bar of candy. I told him about my dream of all the people in Auroville being actors in a play and leaned back relaxed to see all the characters, even those not close to me, playing an essential role. I asked Madhav if people in Auroville were more representative of forces to be worked out, possibilities and difficulties . He confirmed this and said that as Auroville is a collective experiment there is no place now for individuality. Each must fill his part. Later individuality could come in.

He then said that as we are both very enthusiastic about the Lexicon, it should be finished soon. He urged me to do it within a month saying that the Grace and Force are now with me to do it and that all new things are done this way, not slowly and over a long period of time. He said it is this way with music, etc. and that I should concentrate much on Savitri now. As I was getting up to leave he said, “This birthday will be a point of departure from the past.” He also said that I should speak to Shyamsundar about the Matrimandir Gardens but should take his reactions (i.e. those of Shyamsundar) as a Karma Yogin. He again advised me to be more detached in the work, for our contribution in Auroville is what we accomplish in consciousness and not outward work.
